The Story Behind my Topic

For my blog topic I chose to do the effects on a fatherless child. I chose this topic because I can relate to the issue. When I was younger around the age 4 or 5 my dad left me and my mom, leaving my mom to raise a child on her own. This topic means a lot to me because I know the hardships a fatherless child goes through. I know that feeling of longing for that male figure in your life, or the feeling of not being loved, and even thinking that it's your fault that he left. Another reason I chose to do this topic is because it is a huge issue in the United States of America. The organization of Spreading Hope to Broken Homes states in their article titled "Facing the Facts" that in the year of 2012 "85% of youth in America came from a fatherless home." It also states that "in studies involving over 25,000 children, that children who live with only one parent on average have lower grade point averages, less college aspirations, poor attendance records, and higher drop out rates than that of a student with both parents. This is a big reason why I want to get involved with this topic, because when I get older I want to be able to help kids who have come from a situation similar to mine, or even worse. I want to be able to help feel that role as a father figure in their life, and let them know that somebody is there for them, that somebody cares.
